Why is patient prep always overlooked

Is it just me, or does it feel like the importance of patient prep gets brushed aside too often? I had a situation last week where a patient came in eating a full breakfast before their fasting blood draw. It threw off the entire schedule and made me wonder how we can better educate them beforehand. Definitely something we need to address more in our workflows.

Totally get that! We should definitely consider sending out reminder texts about fasting. Got any ideas for improving our patient communication?

, that drives me nuts! It’s all too easy for patients to forget about fasting, especially when breakfast smells so good… Maybe we should consider putting up posters in the waiting room or sending info via email as a reminder.
