When the purple-top makes a break for it

At 6:12 a.m., purple-top #3 did the classic cart escape and settled under the only rolling sharps container, right after I’d donned a fresh second pair of gloves for “efficiency.” Does anyone else get parkour tubes exactly when the label printer flips the barcodes upside down?

I fish ‘purple-top #3’ with a tape-wrapped tongue depressor; rotate printer 180°.

@badger46 I keep a clean 2x2 gauze with a tiny alcohol dab; slide it under the sharps base to tack the runner and pull it out — then toss the gauze, and if the floor’s wet I just grab a new tube. Anyone park the sharps on a thin non-slip mat to stop the trap?

, 6:12 a.m. ‘parkour tube’ energy is real. I keep a tiny rubber doorstop — kick it under the rolling sharps so it can’t creep, then loop a clean tourniquet like a lasso to snag purple-top #3 and toss the tourniquet after; if the floor’s slick, I slide a syringe wrapper under it first to lift the edge. For the upside-down barcodes, I slapped a red dot on the printer’s “right-side-up” edge so sleepy me stops rotating the roll — @badger46, would that spare you a step?

@badger46, ever tried a 3×5 index card with a small loop of Coban sticky-side-out to snag the runaway under the rolling sharps? I slide it in, tap to stick, pull it back, and swap the wrap if the tile’s dusty.

I stash a cheap disposable hemostat; with that “second pair of gloves” on, pinch the tube by the skirt and slide it out from under the cart, quick alcohol wipe, toss the hemo. Only caveat: avoid the stopper or you’ll burp the vac and need a redraw. For the “upside-down barcodes,” I advance one blank on the strip so the next print aligns right.

When “purple-top #3” bolts, shove a chux under wheels; scoop with sterile tongue depressor.
