I remember my first draw; my hands were shaking like crazy! I found that taking a deep breath and talking to the patient really helped ease my anxiety. What strategies do you all use to keep calm when you’re in that moment? Anyone else?
I totally get the nerves! I used to squeeze a stress ball while prepping; it kept my hands busy and helped focus my breathing. Have you ever tried that?
Talking to the patient is a great move! I also find that visualizing the whole process as a movie scene helps — just pretending I’m the star makes it less stressful. Ever tried focusing on the patient’s story instead of your own nerves?
I remember feeling those jitters too! One thing that really helped me was practicing the draw on a training arm a few times before the actual patient, just to get comfortable with the process… It made a big difference in my confidence.
