Should we be using capillary tubes more often

I’ve been reading a bit about the benefits of capillary tubes for certain tests, especially for pediatric patients. It seems like they could really cut down on discomfort and complications. Has anyone else had experience implementing this in their practice?

I’ve found that using capillary tubes for fingerstick tests can significantly reduce anxiety in younger patients. However, they do require careful technique to avoid hemolysis, so training staff is crucial. Have you considered what protocols you’d put in place for using them more regularly?

Using capillary tubes can really minimize discomfort in pediatric patients. In my experience, it’s crucial to pre-warm the site to promote better blood flow and reduce variability in results. It might take some extra time initially, but the comfort benefit is worth it, don’t you think?

It’s true that capillary methods could greatly ease the process for kids, especially for those tests where just a few drops are needed. I’ve noticed that having a good warming technique does help with blood flow. @nina_b82, have you found any particular warming methods that work best for you?
