Is it just me, or do others feel a strange sense of camaraderie with needles? Whenever I’m about to draw blood, I like to imagine I’m giving the needle a pep talk. I mean, we’re both in this together, right? But seriously, what happens if my pep talks work and the patients end up loving their blood draws? Where does that go next?
I totally get that camaraderie with needles! It drives me nuts when patients freak out; a little pep talk could really help ease the tension. I tried that once — told the needle we were on a team, and it made the patient chuckle.
I love that idea! Giving the needle a pep talk is like being its personal coach; just think of it as helping it score a ‘blood draw touchdown!’ @jupa574, have you ever thought about giving your patients a little pep talk too?
